Chalk-Manner Lithographs
Line Quality/ Shading Chalk-manner lithographs are produced using a wax crayon to draw an image onto a piece of limestone. The density of a line or shaded area directly corresponds to the amount of pressure applied while drawing; the slightly rough surface of the stone picks up more wax as pressure is increased. This ultimately produces an irregular stippled appearance in the final print. These features can be seen using relatively low magnification, such as a loupe. |
