Notes on this view:

Matte collodion prints were commonly attached to a thick card mount because the paper tended to curl after processing. Mounts were typically a shade of gray to compliment the tones of the finished print. This object is fairly unique because it has a square, cream-colored mount with an applied floral and leaf border. Cream mounts were available during this period, but were primarily used for glossy collodion prints. It is likely this picture was made by an amateur photographer who ordered the mount from a catalog or photographic supply store.
