Notes on this view:

Richard Keene (1825-1894) made this platinum print of the Gwdyir Castle gardens just after a light snowfall. Keene was a nineteenth century photographer from Derbyshire, England. He was a founding member of the Derby Photographic Society in 1884 and a member of the Brotherhood of the Linked Ring. He was primarily a printer and bookseller, but also operated a successful photographic studio beginning in 1859. He primarily did portraiture and stereoviews of Derby. Keen also took private commissions.

Gwdyir Castle is in the Conway Valley in Wales. Although it is called a castle, the building is a Tudor courtyard house, or fortified manor house. It was the ancestral home of the powerful Wynn family and is renowned for its gardens and beautiful landscape.
