Notes on this view:

This tintype depicting an elderly woman is vignetted. Vignetting was a popular technique in the 19th century in which there is a gradual fading of the outer edges of the subject until the image fades into the background. Vignetting could be done in camera or during printing. Tintypes are direct positives made in camera, therefore in order to make this object, the subject was placed before a white backdrop and a vignetting mask was placed in front of the lens.

Notice this tintype is particularly well made. It has good image detail, creamy highlights, and subtle yet well done hand-coloring.
