Notes on this view:

This is a tourist snapshot taken in Pompeii ca. 1925. Other photographs from this collection depict each man, individually, in various areas of Pompeii. It is possible they were both photographing with the same camera and handed the camera to another tourist to take this image of them posed together near Pompeii’s basilica, the palace of justice in the first-century AD. The basilica floor plan used for ancient Roman courts of law, such as this, was later adopted for many Christian churches. Notice the column fragments are made of brick.
