Notes on this view:

This is an example of a standardized V-Mail, or Victory Mail, Christmas card. Adopted from the British Airgraph Service in 1942, V-Mail was a faster, lighter, and less bulky way for WWII soldiers and their families to communicate. Special stationery was provided on which a 100 to 300 word message would be written. The letter was mailed to a processing center where it was photographed onto 16mm motion picture film using a Recordak machine, a microfilm machine developed by Kodak. The original letter was retained and filed. Once the film reached its destination (usually transported by air), the film was processed and each letter was printed onto gelatin silver photographic paper. The reproduced letters were one-quarter the original size. Notice the black border where the edges of the film were printed into the image.
