Steel Engravings
Line Quality Steel engravings are created using a combination of engraving and etching on a steel printing plate. The greater hardness of steel plates over traditional copper plates allowed engravers to produce much finer lines and thus greater detail. The combination of techniques can be seen using relatively low magnification, such as a loupe. Engraved lines will appear rigid and have pointed ends. Etched lines appear more fluid and have blunt, rounded ends. |
